it’s deafening. the noise of the world. and absolutely relentless in its omnipresence. so when i arrive home, discard the day’s wear, and step into a vintage piece (usually sheer, sometimes vibrant), i’m grateful for the silence.
as of late, there’s been this persistent rhythm swirling in my brain. it’s the instrumental to nicki’s i’m the best. on top of this instrumental, nicki’s voice gradually awakens until all i hear is her asserting:
“…you could never understand why i grind like i do
micaiah and jelani why i grind like i do
'cause even when my daddy was on crack, i was crack
now the whole album crack, you ain't gotta skip a track
i ain't gotta get a plaque, i ain't gotta get awards
i just walk up out the door, all the girls will applaud
all the girls will commend as long as they understand
that i'm fighting for the girls that never thought they could win
'cause before they could begin, you told 'em it was the end
but i am here to reverse the curse that they live in”
you should know by now that i’m a woman who finds tremendous sex appeal in work ethic. it’s my capricorn placements.
astrology aside, there’s something magnetic about doing exactly what you said you were going to do. honoring the promises you made to yourself. and silencing the noise of the world as you sit in the seat of self-mastery.
there are many things we can say about nicki, but a lack of talent, a lack of vision, and a lack of work ethic are not one.
and there are many things we can say about you: an abundance of talent, a singularity of vision, and an insistence on getting what you want are just a few.
so do not be distracted by the noise of the world. by the swinging of the pendulum. by the assumptions of hierarchy. and by the self loathing that permeates the culture.
instead, insist on your existence. sit in your seat of self mastery. and take meticulous care in crafting your myth.
day in, and day out. your focus must be you.
and as you reflect on what that means for you. aware of a fantasy not yet met, i invite you to join me in the diouana woman salon.
this saturday will be a masterclass on erotic capital. and as i argued in my latest essay, developing your erotic capital is the foundational step of creating your myth.
mythmaking simply isn’t the art of creating an image. like i’ve written previously, being beautiful won’t solve all your problems.
mythmaking is far more superior than superficial notions of sexual attraction.
mythmaking is the art of creating one’s own legend, both real and perceived. it’s the perception we project onto the world as we stake our claim as biological women determined to get what we want.
when nicki released i’m the best, she spoke of herself affirmative of the future. she told us she belonged at the top. that she worked harder than anyone else. that regardless of a lack of external validation, her impact was undeniable. especially to the young women she made feel seen.
this was her myth in the making.
and now? her myth has been enshrined.
and for those of us still writing our myths, saturday’s conversation, featuring the pioneering sociologist who wrote the book on erotic capital, will be about understanding, at a subconscious level, our erotic capital.
through this, we’ll gain a framework that shows us exactly how to articulate our essence. our echoing of our soul.
thus, as we navigate this cacophony of a world, our planet will turn on its axis as we insist on being woman of consequence. of substance. determined to write our own stories. to live our own lives. and above all: never, ever kiss the ring.
or bend the knee for that matter.
sweet dreams,
a diouana woman
